CASS CITY CHRONICLE CASS CITY, MICHIGAN, FRIDAY, JULY 4, 1947 Two Brothers Drown in Lake Near Pontiac Ralph and Ernest Stone Were Victims Sunday in Fishing Mishap Two brothers, Ernest Stone, 25, of Hickory Grove Road, Pontiac, and Ralph Stone, 3O, of 955 Beardslee Road, Route 1, Lake Orion, drowned when they fell from their fishing boat in Commerce Lake, near Pontiac, about 10:30 a. m. on Sunday. Both formerly lived at Cass City. They went to the lake with Herman Siewert of Hickory Grove Road. As they decided to use two boats, Siewert was fishing alone. Whether one of the pair fell and the other went to his rescue could not be established as none of those who witnessed the accident were close enough to be certain. Sheriff's Detectives Elmer McQuern and Delos Anderson and Deputy Robert Gordon recovered the bodies. Ralph Stone was born in Michigan Oct 11, 1916. Ernest was born in New York July 6, 1922. They were the sons of Amos H. and Gladys Snell Crouch Stone. Ralph was a private in the medical corps, 888 Aviation engineers, and was honorably discharged on Oct. 8, 1945. He was last employed in the power house at the Fisher Body plant in Pontiac. Ernest had been employed as a farm hand for four years at Fairfield Farms, Bloomfield Hills. Both came to Orion Township two years ago from Cass City and were members of tbe Maccabees at Deford. Surviving besides the parents are a brother, Thomas Atfield, of Caro, and a sister, Mrs. Bessie Schroeder of Utica. Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 3, at the Purseley Funeral Home in Pontiac with Rev. A. H. Meyer of the Bethel Evangelical Church officiating. Burial was at Square Lake cemetery.
